Does the U7-LR support the new 6 GHz Wi-Fi 7 band ?
Yes. Unlike the entry-level U7 Lite, the U7 Long-Range is a true tri-band Wi-Fi 7 access point. It features dedicated radios for the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, letting you take full advantage of interference-free 6 GHz spectrum and high-speed channels.
How much area does the U7 Long-Range actually cover ?
The U7-LR is designed to blanket up to 185 m² (2,000 ft²) with a high-strength wireless footprint.
Will it bottleneck on a standard Gigabit switch port ?
Yes, it can. To unlock the true multi-gigabit throughput of Wi-Fi 7 (which can push wireless speeds well past 5 Gbps across its radios), the U7-LR features a 2.5 GbE RJ45 uplink port.
What are its power requirements? Can I run it on standard PoE ?
No, standard PoE (802.3af) is not enough. Because of its powerful amplifiers and tri-band radio array, the U7-LR requires higher wattage. It must be powered via PoE+ (802.3at) or a matching 2.5G PoE+ injector, typically drawing a maximum peak power of around 21W to 24W
Can I swap my old U6-LR out for the U7-LR using the same mount ?
Yes. Ubiquiti intentionally designs its Long-Range series to maintain physical parity. The U7-LR fits perfectly into the professional pre-installed metal mounting plates used by the U6-LR and U6 Pro.
