The UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra (UCG-Ultra) is a compact, silent gateway for home offices and small businesses. It has one 1/2.5 GbE WAN port and four 1 GbE LAN ports. IDS/IPS runs at full 1 Gbps with deep packet inspection active. Supports dual-WAN failover and load balancing for internet redundancy. Runs UniFi Network locally to manage 30+ devices and 300+ clients—no Cloud Key needed. Includes firewall, VLANs, ad filtering, and Layer 7 application control. What is the primary function of the UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra (UCG-Ultra)?
The UCG-Ultra is a compact, multi-WAN desktop gateway that acts as a router, advanced firewall, and local UniFi Network application host. It delivers full gigabit routing and security performance for home offices, remote branches, and small businesses without requiring an external Cloud Key.
Does the UCG-Ultra support UniFi Protect security cameras?
No. The UCG-Ultra runs the UniFi Network application exclusively to manage access points and switches. It does not support internal storage or host applications like UniFi Protect, Access, Talk, or Connect. If you need camera recording (Protect), consider the UniFi Cloud Gateway Max (UCG-Max).
Does enabling threat detection (IDS/IPS) slow down my internet speed?
No. The UCG-Ultra features a 1 Gbps security engine capable of deep packet inspection (DPI), intrusion prevention, signature-based threat analysis, and ad blocking without degrading full 1 Gbps line-rate internet throughput.
How does multi-WAN failover work on the UCG-Ultra?
The device features one dedicated 1/2.5 GbE WAN port and allows reconfiguring one of its 1 GbE LAN ports as a secondary WAN port. It automatically triggers load balancing or instant failover to a secondary ISP if your primary internet connection drops.
How many UniFi devices and client devices can the UCG-Ultra manage?
It is built to manage 30+ UniFi network devices (access points and switches) and comfortably support 300+ active connected client devices simultaneously.
Does the UCG-Ultra require recurring license fees or subscriptions?
No. Like all Ubiquiti UniFi hardware, there are zero ongoing software licenses, device management fees, or subscription costs. Remote multi-site management via the free UniFi Site Manager portal and mobile app is included.
Can I set up site-to-site VPNs with other remote locations using the UCG-Ultra?
Yes. It supports high-speed WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IPsec protocols. Additionally, it features Ubiquiti’s zero-configuration Site Magic SD-WAN, allowing you to mesh multiple UniFi sites into a secure, encrypted network with just a few clicks.
How is the UCG-Ultra powered, and does it include a built-in status display?
The UCG-Ultra is powered via an included 5V DC, 3A USB-C power adapter. The front panel features a integrated 0.96" LCM display that provides real-time network status, WAN activity, and system diagnostics at a glance.
