The UCG-Max delivers higher overall hardware capabilities, including full 2.5 GbE networking (5 total ports), up to 2.3 Gbps IDS/IPS security throughput, and support for optional M.2 NVMe SSD storage to host the entire UniFi Application Suite (Network, Protect, Access, Talk, and Connect).
Can the UCG-Max record and store UniFi Protect security camera video?
Yes. The UCG-Max features a dedicated slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD (up to 2 TB). When fitted with an SSD, it operates as a full-featured UniFi Protect NVR for local 24/7 video recording without monthly cloud subscription fees.
Does the UCG-Max come with built-in storage, or do I need to supply an SSD?
It is sold in both configurations: models with pre-installed NVMe storage (e.g., 512 GB, 1 TB, or 2 TB) and a "No Storage" model. If you purchase the base model without an SSD, you can add a compatible M.2 NVMe drive later using the optional expansion tray to enable camera recording.
Can all 5 Ethernet ports on the UCG-Max run at 2.5 Gbps?
Yes. All 5 RJ45 Ethernet ports on the UCG-Max support multi-gigabit 2.5 GbE speeds. This allows you to connect 2.5 GbE internet WAN connections as well as high-speed LAN hardware, multi-gig switches, and Wi-Fi 6E/7 access points without bandwidth bottlenecks.
What is the security routing performance when threat management (IDS/IPS) is active?
The UCG-Max maintains up to 2.3 Gbps of security throughput with real-time Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), deep packet inspection, and Layer 7 application control fully operational.
How many UniFi devices and client devices can the UCG-Max support?
It is engineered to host and manage 30+ UniFi network devices (access points, switches, and door controllers) and comfortably handle over 300 connected client devices across your network.
Does the UCG-Max require any recurring cloud subscriptions or software licenses?
No. There are zero license fees or subscription costs to run UniFi applications, host your Protect camera storage locally, or manage your sites remotely via the free UniFi Site Manager web portal and mobile app.
Does the UCG-Max support dual-WAN failover and Site-to-Site VPNs?
Yes. The UCG-Max supports multi-WAN configuration (load balancing or failover), high-speed WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPsec, and Ubiquiti's Site Magic SD-WAN for single-click encrypted mesh networking between multiple remote sites.
