Versatile Power over Ethernet (PoE) Architecture
At its core is flexible PoE passthrough. Port 1 accepts 802.3bt PoE++ input. The unit receives both data and power over a single Ethernet line. This eliminates the need for local AC power outlets at remote sites.
When powered by a 60W 802.3bt PoE++ source—like a UniFi PoE++ injector or compatible high‑power switch—the USW‑FLEX delivers a total PoE output budget of up to 46W. This power is intelligently distributed across Ports 2 through 5. These ports support auto‑sensing 802.3af PoE output. This makes it ideal for powering multiple IP cameras, wireless APs, or VoIP hardware. No extra electrical infrastructure is needed.

The USW‑FLEX has a weatherproof chassis. It withstands extreme conditions and wide temperature fluctuations. Whether mounted on a pole outdoors, attached to a wall, or placed on a desktop inside an enclosure, it maintains reliable connectivity in tough environments. Is the USW-Flex suitable for outdoor installation?
Yes. The USW-Flex is outdoor-ready and features a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 65°C / -40°F to 149°F) along with integrated ±16kV ESD surge protection. When paired with an optional weatherproof outdoor enclosure (such as the Flex Utility), it can handle harsh environments, pole mounting, and direct rain exposure.
How is the total PoE power budget calculated for the USW-Flex?
The switch is powered over Ethernet via Port 1, and its total PoE power output budget depends directly on the power source connected to Port 1:
PoE++ (802.3bt / 60W) Input: Provides up to 46W of total PoE output budget.
PoE+ (802.3at / 30W) Input: Provides up to 20W of total PoE output budget.
Standard PoE (802.3af / 15.4W) Input: Provides up to 8W of total PoE output budget
Can the USW-Flex power high-draw devices like PTZ cameras or Wi-Fi 6 access points?
Yes, as long as the total power budget isn't exceeded. Each of the 4 PoE output ports supports up to 25W (802.3at PoE+). To power multiple high-draw devices simultaneously, ensure the USW-Flex is powered via a 60W PoE++ input source (like the U-PoE++ injector) to unlock the maximum 46W budget.
What is the Flex Utility accessory and when do I need it?
The UniFi Flex Utility (USW-Flex-Utility) is an optional outdoor enclosure accessory. It includes a weather-resistant housing, a 60W PoE power adapter (supplying 54V DC), and mounting hardware. It is ideal if you need to install the switch outdoors where direct AC line power is available instead of a PoE supply cable
